Academy JR’s
(U6-U10)

For players wanting more advanced training or who are wanting prepare for or see what being in the Academy is like, Neuse River is pleased to offer the Academy Jr's program. 

The Neuse River Academy JR’s program is designed to challenge the more advanced youth player in preparation for the Academy. Players that are selected for the Academy JR’s may be a bit more “advanced” in size, speed and or technical ability. Players must also be mature enough to learn in a proper training environment to be selected for the program. Players that are selected for the Academy JR’s program will train with other players similar players that we feel are prepared for more advanced technical training. Not all players are ready for this at such a young age but for those players that are we offer:

·  A developmentally-appropriate curriculum developed by our Academy Director and lead taught by professional staff coaches that will challenge all our Jr’s to reach their fullest potential.  

·  Once-a-week outdoor training supplement your child’s recreational team training which will offer more advanced training in a more structured environment. (fall and spring programs will be offered) discounts will be given to full-year Jr players)

·  Limited number of players who are selected based on mental maturity, physical ability, and technical ability to challenge all players involved appropriately.

JR’s CURRICULUM: 
The Jr’s curriculum features a heavy emphasis on individual ball mastery, allowing each player to become more comfortable, confident and creative with their foot skills while nurturing their passion and enjoyment for soccer. Activities and games will follow the best practices of US Soccer and US Youth Soccer.

Each week of training will feature a theme, which will build off the themes from previous weeks, including:

·  Dribbling for possession (learning to change direction and shielding)
·  Dribbling for to take on a defender. (Improve players confidence and ability to take on a defender with skills, cuts, feints)
·  Improving First touch
·  Passing and receiving / Receiving and turning
·  Finishing and ball-striking
·  Shape and balance improving field awareness

Academy Jr (Recreation)

Players that are interested and selected for the Academy Jr’s may be a bit more “advanced” in size, speed and or technical ability. Players in the Academy Jr’s program will train with other players similar players that we feel are prepared for more advanced technical training in a more structured environment. Not all players are ready for this at such a young age but for those players that are ready for a bigger challenge we offer:
- A developmentally-appropriate curriculum taught by NRFA staff coaches that will challenge all of our Jr’s to reach their fullest potential and prepare them to succeed in the Academy which prepares players for Classic soccer.
- Once-per-week outdoor training supplement your child’s recreational team training which will offer more advanced training in a more structured environment. (fall and spring programs will be offered)
- A limited number of players who are selected based off of mental maturity, physical ability, and technical ability to challenge all players involved appropriately.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE: The Academy Jr’s will train once a week in conjunction with their recreational team: They will still train and play matches with their rec team to give them an opportunity to showcase their newly acquired skills thru the Jr program. The program will begin on September 10th and runs every Monday at Knightdale Station Park and Thursday at Riverwood Middle School Fields until the end of November for the fall then starts again on March 4th and ends at the end of April.   When registering you can pick a Monday or Thursday option.  Includes training shirt.
