Neuse River Classic Soccer Program information

Classic soccer starts at U11 and is played by boys and girls. This level of soccer is reserved for the most committed and talented players. Players who intend to play classic typically have been developed thru the Academy program and then tryout to move up to the Classic level at u11. If selected to a Classic team, U11 - U14 players are usually required to play both spring and Fall, while U15 - U18 Boys play in the Spring and U15 - U18 Girls play in the Fall. U14 Boys & Girls teams that qualify for Region III play in the spring, While U15 - U18 Boys & Girls play in the Fall.

Classic objective: to continue to build on the technical skills that a player has developed thus far and begin to focus more on the tactical side of the game.

Team Selection: Tryouts are held annually in May, with supplemental tryouts held in November/December for U15 - U18 Boys.

Age Groups/Gender: Classic soccer is available to children ages U11 – U18 (the U stands for under an age as of 8/1 of a given year – Example: Your child would be considered U12 if they are 11 as of 7/31). Teams are grouped into divisions based on age, gender and level of play.

Seasons: U11 - U14 players are usually required to play both spring and Fall, while U15 - U18 Boys play in the Spring and U15 - U18 Girls play in the Fall. U14 Boys & Girls teams that qualify for Region III play in the spring, While U15 - U18 Boys & Girls play in the Fall.

Coaching: All coaches are licensed professional staff coaches that are experienced and qualified individuals with USSF or United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) coaching licenses.

Training: All teams train three nights a week by professional staff coaches and players also receive two nights a month training with their groups designated Technical director.

Competitive Level: Classic soccer is the highest level of competition for U11 - U18 players. Within classic there are four levels of play:

Region III Premier: Region III teams compete against teams from across the Southeast of the United States. This is for U14 teams and older.

Premier: Premier teams play other top teams from across North Carolina. This is for U14 teams and older.

1st Division: 1st Division teams play other teams from the Western half of North Carolina (Eastern half teams play teams from the East)

Open Division: This is reserved for U11 - U13 teams. This division is equivalent to 1st division at this age; however, clubs opt-in to play Open or 2nd Division.

2nd Division: 2nd Division teams play other teams from the Western or Piedmont regions within North Carolina.

Teams are promoted and relegated between divisions at the conclusion of each season (spring or Fall) based on North Carolina Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA) standards.

Games: Games are generally played on the weekends. There can be multiple games on a weekend. The games are intense and highly competitive. Playing time is not guaranteed; however, at U11-U12 player development is our main objective. Result oriented soccer becomes progressively more important starting at U13. Teams will participate in tournaments. This could involve traveling to another city or state with overnight stays in a hotel, eating out, and usually at least three soccer games in one weekend.

State Cup: At U13, teams will start competing in State Cup tournaments.

Travel: Games and practices are held at venues throughout North Carolina against teams in the same division. Region III teams will travel across the Southeast!

Financial Commitment: Classic soccer is a greater financial commitment than Academy or recreational soccer. There are generally two types of fees for Classic - club fees and team fees. Club fees cover items such as trainers, fields, player insurance, while team fees can cover team tournament fees, referee fees, coach’s travel/expenses, and items of that nature. And fees can be paid at once or divided into quarterly or monthly payments. Financial assistance is available for those who apply and qualify.
